Re: A listicle for when things suck

Just A Friendly Reminder: You Rock

Today I read a Carolina student’s listicle for when things suck and it inspired me. I know, “inspired” sounds way too corny but follow along.

There is nothing more important than loving yourself.

Emma Watson said it, so that means we have to do it.

There is nothing more important than looking around your college campus quad, or your office cubicle, or your messy kitchen island, taking a deep breath, and feeling okay.

Nothing is more important than remembering who you are and what you love, even if it takes a day off and a strawberry donut with sprinkles and a Gossip Girl marathon to play the happy side of the tape in your brain again.

Nothing is more important than surrounding yourself with people who make you love yourself. Who make you laugh until the tops of your cheeks hurt, until you’re scrambling to find a tissue to wipe happy tears, until the warm and fuzzy feeling is constant and consistent and never ending.

There is nothing more important than looking in the mirror at yourself every single morning and smiling and truly believing in the things you accomplish and the capability to complete the tasks on your to do list, however long that list may be.

Looking in the mirror at yourself, and instead of reaching for tweezers or coverup or the curling iron, making stupid faces until you think your eyes will stay crossed forever and making yourself giggle with accents that no one else should ever hear you try.

There is nothing more important than loving yourself.

When the sad side of the tape starts to wind up in your head, rhythmically picking up speed as the day hurries, hurries by, stop. Call your mom. Hug a baby. Paint a picture. Take a warm shower. As the author of the listicle said, put yourself first.

Love yourself first.
